Drawing Near to God in
Solitude, Silence, & Surrender

Welcome to Solitude n Silence

There is a quiet path that many of us eventually find ourselves walking.

For me, that path began not in a season of peace, but in a season of deep involvement. A few years ago I became heavily engaged in local leadership and county politics. I cared deeply about the direction of our community and our nation. Yet the more I engaged, the more I felt an overwhelming weight. The issues we faced seemed far greater than any human plan or leadership could resolve.  That realization did not drive me to try harder in my own strength. Instead, it drove me to a quieter place.  Each morning I began setting aside extended time in solitude and silence before the Lord. No agenda. No performance. Just stillness, Scripture, prayer, and surrender. In that quiet place, God began a deep restoration of my spiritual life — not by my works, but by His mercy.  I started looking more honestly at my own heart, asking the Lord not first to change the world around me, but to change me. Solitude n Silence was born out of that journey.  This space is not only about what God is doing in the present. It is also a place to remember. Over the last 52 years I have seen His faithfulness, provision, mercy, favor, and grace in ways that still fill me with wonder. Some of those stories and reflections will find their way here.

This is a simple space for the quieter work — drawing near to God, allowing Him to search us, and learning to live from surrendered rest rather than anxious striving.  If you have found your way here, welcome. I am glad you are here.

May this be a place where the noise grows quieter, where the soul is strengthened, and where we remember together that He has always been faithful.

The journey continues. But these pages are also something else. They are a memorandum. A deliberate act of remembrance for four children and fourteen grandchildren who will one day look back and ask what held their father and grandfather steady when the ground shook. They will find here, not a polished résumé of spiritual success, but an honest trail of mercies—mercies that arrived after long seasons of inconsistency, after leadership failures, after the kind of family fractures that leave scars. They will find the quiet confession that the same God who began a good work is still willing to finish it, even in a man who often lacked the consistency he longed for. The mercies are new every morning.

That is not a slogan. It is the only reason these words exist.

If the younger ones ever need proof that the Lord does not abandon His own, even when His own have been slow, stubborn, or silent for seasons—they will find it here. Not in the strength of the man who writes, but in the faithfulness of the One who kept writing on his heart long after the ink should have dried.

So this is why the work is being done. Not to build a following.

Not to leave a brand. But to leave a witness.

A quiet, unfinished, Spirit-breathed record that says:

He was faithful. His mercies were new.

And they still are. Come and sit awhile.
