Created to Overcome: A Quiet Witness to God-Given Capacity

I have a gentleman who has worked for our company for nearly eighteen years. He carries so many talents that it still amazes me. He knows most of the various trades, yet what stands out even more is something that feels almost supernatural within this American system. He can look at nearly anything and figure out how to make it happen, how to make it work.

We talk about this gift often. It is not merely technical skill. To me, it is a living example of something our forefathers understood and tried to protect. Human beings are created with a real capacity to confront and overcome the challenges set before us.

The language of the Declaration of Independence makes the foundation clear:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

These rights are not grants from government. They come before government. Because we are created by God, we carry certain rights and dignities that no earthly authority can legitimately take away. Government exists to secure them, not to create or cancel them.

That truth has a very practical consequence. If the Creator has endowed people with rights and with the ability to exercise them, then we are also equipped, under God, to face the obstacles that stand before us.

Tyranny, scarcity, injustice, and the ordinary hardships of life are not ultimate. They can be met, resisted, and, within the limits of this fallen world, overcome. The strength to do so comes from the same Creator who gave us these rights in the first place.

This is why the American system places such importance on limited government and the protection of individual free will. It rests on the understanding that people are neither gods nor mere subjects. We are created beings who have been given a capacity that must be protected and exercised.

I see that capacity at work in this man.

He does not wait for someone else to solve the problem. He looks at it. He thinks about it. He figures it out. Then he makes it work.

That is more than skill to me. It points to a deeper truth. God designed us with the ability to take hold of the challenges before us.

And I believe the same principle reaches far beyond the job site.

As we draw near to the greater power who created us through prayer, stillness, and surrender, that capacity is strengthened. Dependence on our Creator is not weakness. It is the ground of our strength.

Our Founders understood the importance of faith, conscience, and moral discipline in sustaining a free people. Drawing near to God equips us for the hard work of living responsibly in freedom and meeting the demands of everyday life.

What I see in this long-time employee is a quiet reminder of that design.

We were not created to be helpless before our circumstances. We were created with free will. That free will is meant to be exercised under God, with humility, diligence, and confidence that the One who endowed us with these rights also gives us the strength to live them out.

His mercies are new every morning.

And so is the capacity He placed within us.
